Plays of light and Christmas fantasies

This year, Linea Light Group signed the light games that lit up Palazzo Vecchio in Florence on Saturday 8 December. Now in its fourth edition, the F-Light wanted to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Leonardo da Vinci with the lighting project that lit up the city with new light, until 6 January 2019. In line with the festival's Christmas concept, Linea Light Group demonstrated its know-how in the technical field by creating lighting scenarios that recall typical Christmas elements, such as falling snow and candle lights. The sceneries consist of two cycles interspersed with pauses and recall cycles, for a total cycle of 16 minutes of light scenery. A predefined dual scenery set and controlled by a DMX control system in which each product is a different pixel of a set.

Several products have been chosen for this lighting project starring Palazzo Vecchio and the Tower of Arnolfo. For the area of the patrol walkway, a lighting grid was created consisting of 220 Pixie RGBW, small circular LED fixtures, with integrated four-channel control for colour and dimming. Equipped with PIXEL RGBW technology and thanks to the DMX protocol, they create dynamic lighting scenes.

The installation was made possible thanks to a system of connectors for a total of 600 metres of cable to which the different PIXELs were hooked, illuminating the upper part of the ancient palace like small falling snowflakes. The effects then continued upwards, on the Arnolfo Tower lit up like a candle. To create this, three different lighting situations were used. The first saw the installation of the Silicone_C RGB LED strip inside the corridor, under the battlements. The strip was applied by creating a cove lighting on the wall opposite the corridor windows of the patrol walkway. A uniform wash on the wall discreetly and glare-free illuminates the passage of visitors. In addition, the different plays of light convey to the viewer in the square the final effect of a fiery base, as if the principle of flame were within the bell tower itself. To illuminate the pillars, on the other hand, Archiline_W Pro RGBW stainless steel wall bars with elliptical optics were chosen, while Prolamp RGBW projectors, a range of projectors designed for architectural lighting with multiple optical possibilities, were chosen for the interior of the bell housing. The diffuse emission of light from the two installations allowed the creation of a fading effect towards each other, giving the idea of a small flame that is burning.
