Watergate Hotel
Modern and elegant: the Watergate Hotel returns to its splendour
After years of closure and neglect, the Watergate Hotel, famous for the notorious scandal involving the party of then US President Richard Nixon in 1972, is being refurbished and restored to its former elegance in a more contemporary style. The elegant history of the Watergate Hotel now inspires and revives in the new design. Curvilinear shapes, inspired by the sails of a boat, create movement in the architecture: today's design features curvilinear spaces and a variety of finishes, gradients, reflections, light and shadow to create a sparkling experience.

Dynamic and detailed architecture
The whisky bar, the symbol of the renovation, sparkles in the golden light coming from a curved wall made of whisky bottles. The lighting designers worked closely with the architect and consultants Linea Light Group to develop the stainless steel frame with individual Vissa uplights on each bottle. Sketches, prototypes and tests were used to determine materials and to correct density, transparency, light movement and colour fastness. The ceiling niches, illuminated with customised Fylo_curved, and the whisky wall complement the lighting and architectural finishes of the Lobby and Ballet Room. The lighting effect of the installations is a cool glow during the day and a warm atmosphere after sunset. The experience in the new Watergate Hotel is warm and inviting. The interplay of spaces, finishes, colours and materials creates depth and reveals the complexity in the design.
